Where does henna come from?
Henna (Lawsonia inermis) is a thorny shrub of the Lythraceae family that can reach 6 m in height, growing particularly in regions of Africa.
This shrub has dark green leaves and fragrant white, yellowish flowers. This powder is obtained from the leaves of this same plant, harvested and dried naturally in the sun and then ground. Rich in lawsone molecules, which gives it therapeutic and/or cosmetic properties. However there are several hennas from different places in the world such as henna from Egypt, Rajasthan, Morocco … They all come from the same plant, the difference is therefore the place where the plant lives, the lawsone concentration varies in the plant depending on the climate. Hennas grown in the hottest areas will be richer in lawsone and the color will be darker when used.
